Children’s Justice Act Training Funds Available!
The Texas Children’s Justice Act (CJA) program is committed to improving the investigation, prosecution, administrative, and judicial handling of criminal and/or civil child-protection cases by supporting quality training for child-protection professionals and volunteers.
If you are an organization seeking grant funds to put on a multidisciplinary training event, please see the 2010 CJA Multidisciplinary Training Grant Program Instructions for more information. Applications are due at least 60 days prior to the training event.
Additionally, the CJA program is pleased to offer a limited number of scholarships to individuals and teams to attend the following conferences: Texas CASA 20th Annual Conference, Oct. 7-9, 2009, San Marcos, TX; Texas Foster Families 36th Annual Conference, Oct. 8-10, 2009, Corpus Christi, TX; Children’s Advocacy Center of Texas 14th Annual Conference, Nov. 2-4, 2009, Austin, TX; ChildSafe Annual Child Abuse Conference, Dec. 7-8, San Antonio, TX; National Children’s Advocacy Center Annual Symposium, March 22-25, 2010, Huntsville, AL; National Children’s Alliance Annual Leadership Conference, June 7-9, 2010, Washington D.C. If you are an individual or team seeking support to attend one of the selected events, please see the 2010 CJA Scholarship Announcement for additional information. Texas Children’s Justice Act Task Force Elects New Members
The Texas Children’s Justice Act (CJA) Task Force has elected seven new members. The seven new members will add to the current membership which includes 16 professionals representing a multitude of disciplines involved with the child protection system from across the state of Texas.
New CJA Task Force members include Kriste Burnett, Assistant District Attorney, 83rd/112th Judicial District Attorney’s Office (Cleburne); Randi King, Assistant District Attorney, Jefferson County Attorney’s Office, (Beaumont); Judge Chris Oldner, District Judge, 416th Judicial District Court (McKinney); Tom Gaylor, Deputy Executive Director, Texas Municipal Police Association (Austin); Trista Miller, Region 7 Youth Specialist, Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) (Austin); Daniela Carrasco, Region 9 Youth Specialist, DFPS (Midland); and William Briley, Father, Volunteer Advocate, and Member of the DFPS Statewide Parent Collaborative (Lubbock).
CJA-Funded Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) Training Available Online – Free Continuing Education Credits!
The Texas Office for Prevention of Developmental Disabilities has launched their free online training program, Understanding FASD & Intervention Strategies for Children. This training program is designed for professionals and volunteers who work with children to promote awareness of fetal alcohol spectrum disorders and the effects of alcohol exposure to the developing fetus.
